The new Handbook for Flower Shows is
now available from National Garden Clubs, Inc. Member
Services at a cost of $15.00 plus postage. All garden
clubs and judges are reminded that changes and clarifications
in the new Handbook are in effect immediately. Judges
Council has ordered a limited number of Handbooks (call
Gerry at 847-234-7074 to find out if any are still available)
or order directly from Member Services.
Planning a flower show? A design class
you may be wishing to add to your next Flower Show is
the Capsule-Functional Table, for one person.
The new Handbook reads:
- Functional table exhibit, restricted
to one place setting.
- The exhibit must always include
a decorative unit, but schedule controls whether
decorative unit is to be appropriate in size to
the provided exhibit space or an imagined full-sized
dinner table. Schedule must always provide dimensions.
- This table mode is applicable to
very small tables and to a dining table class in
a Home Show where table is divided into four sections
cross-wise. One section for each exhibitor, using
appointment for one diner and a decorative unit
suitable for the allotted space or for the entire
table, as determined by the schedule.
- Capsule Table exhibits are to be
judged by a scale of points for Functional Table,
p. 303.
Capsule Functional Tables were subject
of design study for the Judges Council winter meeting.
Four designs were displayed and discussed. Class was
titled "On a Cold Winter Day" and the capsule functional
table was to include a decorative unit imagined on
a table set for six people.
